Over the course of a month in 2015, I took Julie’s weekly writing workshop and was impressed with her thoughtful and organized style, which drew on multiple tools to engage our group, encourage and draw out our ideas. Julie established a nurturing atmosphere for the workshop. We learned from Julie and each other. The positive vibes and different writing styles of the group emboldened and challenged me to open up and continue trying. After the workshop ended and excited with the personal essay I produced, I retained Julie as a private tutor to assist me in writing my memoir. That too was a positive experience that continued for two years. Julie has a gentle way of luring the best from me. What started as a paragraph about my 9/11 experience became an emotional multipage happening. And so it was with each subject I tackled under Julie’s tutelage. I felt enticed and never negatively critiqued. Could I have written alone? Yes, but not as emotionally, descriptively or as satisfyingly. I would not have been as prolific or as disciplined. Working with Julie was very enjoyable and rewarding.
Julie’s writing workshop was awesome! It stretched my creativity and did so in a supportive and nurturing environment. It was so much fun. I would recommend it to anyone! Julie has a calming and wise presence and it is a gift to learn from her.
The writing workshop was inspiring. I found it to be supportive and it encouraged me to write. I enjoyed the format and the writing prompts.
